ADDA Labor Advisor John Rees

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF JOHN REES

John Rees is the former Executive Director of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) that represents approximately 8,000 dues paying Union members in labor-relations matters involving wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Throughout his nearly 25 years with ALADS, John has represented numerous union members in administrative hearings, and he is a veteran of hundreds of successful negotiations on a full spectrum of issues. He also served as Vice Chair of the County Coalition of County Unions that represented approximately 30,000 County union employees in Fringe Benefit negotiations with Los Angeles County.

John received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees atSan Diego State University. Continuing his post-graduate training, he attained professional certification in Budget Analysis and Fiscal Problem Solving from the University of Southern California and in Public Sector Labor-Management Relations from the Institute of Industrial Relations of the University of California, Los Angeles.

John occasionally teaches seminars in preparing for arbitration and labor negotiations as a consultant. He also has taught a variety of graduate and under-graduate level courses in Public Administration at La Verne College. Additionally, he has lectured on various public administration topics at Humboldt State University.

Before joining the organized labor movement, John was employed for approximately 10 years in City and County government in a variety of managerial and executive capacities. During his tenure in the public sector, both the Municipal Finance Officers Association and California Society of Municipal Finance Officers formally recognized John for his expertise in budgeting, and the League of California Cities commended his outstanding achievements at the bargaining table.
